United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Turk expressed his "horror at the escalation of violence near the Sudanese city of El Fasher" today, Friday. He added that he "held discussions this week with leaders from both sides of the conflict, warning of a humanitarian disaster if the city is attacked." Turk cautioned the leaders that "fighting in El Fasher would have catastrophic effects on civilians and worsen the situation."
