South African football team Kaizer Chiefs player "Luke Flowers" was shot dead yesterday, Wednesday, during an armed robbery on his car. The Kaizer Chiefs club mourned on its social media pages: "With great sadness, we announce that Kaizer Chiefs player Luke Flowers tragically lost his life last night during an attempted carjacking in Johannesburg," according to AFP.
The details of the crime date back to Wednesday night when the player was sitting in his car before being attacked by two armed men who attempted to steal his vehicle, according to security reports. A police spokesperson stated that "the suspects threatened him with a gun and pulled him out of the car before shooting him and leaving with the victim's vehicle, followed by his accomplice in another car."
Investigations are ongoing to apprehend the two suspects who fled to an unknown location. The 24-year-old victim played as a defender for Kaizer Chiefs, one of the most famous football teams in South Africa, and had also played for the "Bafana Bafana" Under-23 national team.
