Statement from the Union of Private Educational Institutions

The Union of Private Educational Institutions in Lebanon confirmed in a statement that "following the meeting that took place in the parliament on April 24, under the chairmanship of President Elias Bou Saab, and in the presence of representatives from the Union of Private Educational Institutions and the Teachers' Syndicate, President Bou Saab stated after the meeting what was agreed upon, specifically addressing the following points:

- First, to make a specific amendment to Law 515/1996 to suspend the implementation of item 'C' of Article Two for a period of three years.

- Second, to amend the law issued on December 15, 2023, to eliminate the word "grants" from the text, and to postpone its implementation until October 1, 2024.

- Third, to hold a special session concerning the working system of the compensation fund for the educational staff in private schools and the necessary amendments that must be adopted to enable the fund to fulfill its role toward current and retired teachers.

- Fourth, to request the Cabinet to issue a decree to form the new Supervisory Council for the compensation fund for the educational staff in private schools, based on the proposal submitted by the Minister of Education over a month ago."
