Japanese Foreign Minister Visits Ukraine

The Japanese Foreign Ministry stated that "Minister Yoko Kamikawa will visit Ukraine today, Sunday, to reaffirm Tokyo's continued support for Kyiv." The statement added, "During the visit, Minister Kamikawa will reaffirm to the Ukrainian side that Japan's firm policy of standing by and supporting Ukraine has not changed despite the current dangerous international situation."

The ministry clarified that "Kamikawa will directly convey to Kyiv that Japan will strongly demonstrate its commitment to the recovery and reconstruction of Ukraine within the framework of public-private partnership by hosting the Japan-Ukraine conference on February 19."

Furthermore, the ministry mentioned that "during the visit, Minister Kamikawa will consult with Ukrainian partners on ways to enhance cooperation between the two countries." The ministry also noted that "Kamikawa will convey Japan's insistence on supporting the international order based on the rule of law, which states that unilateral changes to the current situation by force, such as the Russian aggression against Ukraine, cannot be accepted."

Kamikawa stated, through an interpreter, at a joint press conference with her Ukrainian counterpart Dmytro Kuleba: "Japan intends to continue its support for Ukraine until peace returns to the country." For his part, Kuleba said, "I informed my counterpart... about Ukraine's needs for aircraft, but most importantly, for air defense systems."
