Zverev Shocks Alcaraz and Advances to the Australian Open Semifinals

German Alexander Zverev shocked second-seeded Carlos Alcaraz to reach the semifinals of the Australian Open after a remarkable performance in his service game, winning 6-1, 6-3, 6-7, 6-4 on Wednesday. Zverev started the match brilliantly on Rod Laver Arena, losing only two points on his serve during the opening set, which he quickly secured. The sixth seed was very strong in maintaining his lead over Alcaraz, who did not show his usual powerful performance, as Zverev broke his serve twice in the second set amid increasing errors from the Spanish player.

The match continued in this vein in the third set, with the German player astonishingly maintaining his level, but he stumbled for the first time when serving for the match, as Alcaraz produced an amazing tiebreak to extend the match. Alcaraz seemed to regain momentum in the fourth set, but a tired Zverev continued to perform strongly, breaking his opponent's serve at 4-4 before clinching his first victory ever against a player ranked in the top five at a Grand Slam.
