Spanish rider Jorge Martin from the Pramac Racing team will start from pole position in the Thailand Grand Prix motorcycle race tomorrow, Sunday, after recording a new lap time record today, Saturday, ensuring he will start from the front for the third time this season. Joining Martin on the front row will be Italian Luca Marini from the VR46 Racing team and Spanish rider Alex Espargaro from Aprilia.
Defending champion and current points leader Francesco Bagnaia, who holds a 27-point lead over Martin, will begin the race from sixth place, behind his compatriot Marco Bezzecchi, representing VR46 Racing, and Brad Binder from the KTM team, who is from South Africa.
After setting the record time of 1 minute and 29.287 seconds, Martin (25 years old) stated, "I am strong and that is the most important thing. I didn't expect this time, and I think it was a really good lap. I feel stronger before tomorrow's race and the sprint race today. I believe we can compete for victory in both races."
Bezzecchi, who started from pole last year, was unable to replicate his heroic performance at the Chang International Circuit despite starting well and will begin from fourth position. The Márquez brothers, Marc and Alex Márquez, excelled in the first qualifying round, with Alex, representing Gresini Racing, outperforming six-time world champion Marc, who has the most victories in the Thailand race.
