Ukraine Accuses Former Security Official of Treason

The local intelligence agency in Kyiv indicated today, Monday, that "Ukrainian authorities have accused a former senior security official of treason, in a case highlighting efforts to eliminate Russian spies from within." The head of the Security Service, Vasil Maliuk, who oversaw the arrest of the former head of the Crimea department of the Security Service, Oleksiy Kolinich, noted that "this is a clear signal to all those working for the enemy; you will certainly be found by the Security Service and will have to answer for what you have done." Investigators stated, "Kolinich was working for the Federal Security Service of Russia and was overseen by other former Ukrainian officials who defected to Moscow, which launched a large-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022." Kolinich, who was heading the Crimea department of the Ukrainian Security Service, was arrested last July on accusations of recruiting other Russia-aligned agents under orders from Moscow.
