Today, Prime Minister Najib Mikati met with Italy's Ambassador to Lebanon, Nicoletta Bombardieri, at the Grand Serail, where they discussed the current situation in Lebanon and the bilateral relations between the two countries. During the meeting, the ambassador reaffirmed Italy's support for the efforts of the Lebanese government to maintain security in southern Lebanon. She commended the Prime Minister's visit to the south, particularly to the UNIFIL command, as it represents "a strong message of support for the United Nations forces." She emphasized that "Italy is keen on protecting the UNIFIL forces and ensuring they carry out their required tasks." The ambassador also confirmed Italy's strong support for development projects in various regions of Lebanon.
Additionally, the Prime Minister met with the UN Resident Coordinator and Humanitarian Coordinator in Lebanon, Imran Riza, the Director of Operations and Advocacy at the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, Edim Vohor, and a delegation from UN agencies. Prime Minister Mikati's advisors, Ambassador Boutros Asaker and Ziad Mikati, were also present. The meeting focused on the emergency plan prepared by the government to address potential developments and new circumstances, as well as coordinating between the government and UN institutions on service, humanitarian, health, and social efforts, in addition to supporting municipalities and civil defense in these circumstances.
