Syrian Foreign Minister Faisal Al-Maqdad arrived in Algeria today, Saturday, on an official visit aimed at strengthening bilateral relations and exploring ways to develop them. Upon his arrival at Houari Boumediene International Airport, he was welcomed by Algerian Minister of Foreign Affairs and National Community Abroad Ahmed Attaf, Syrian Ambassador to Algeria Nimir Al-Ghanem, staff from the Syrian embassy, and several officials from the Algerian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
In a statement to the press, Al-Maqdad said, "Algeria holds special significance for the Syrian people and for all the peoples of the world," affirming that "the relations between Algeria and Syria have been, are, and will continue between our brotherly countries." He clarified that his visit to Algeria was "to express the genuine feelings of the leadership of the Syrian Arab Republic, represented by President Bashar Al-Assad, towards the Algerian leadership, and Syria's gratitude for Algeria's consistent support, especially during recent events when it was the first country to send a qualified team capable of addressing the catastrophic effects of the earthquake."
In this context, Al-Maqdad highlighted that "consultations between the two sides regarding all developments in the region and the world have not ceased," noting that "we need to enhance those relations because this reflects the sincere vision of the peoples and leaders of both countries, to develop relations in all fields. No matter what we say, we cannot adequately describe the important role that Algeria plays on various levels."
He expressed optimism for his country despite all challenges and difficulties, stating that his country "is fighting today the danger that has targeted it, just as it targeted Algeria during the black decade, as both countries play essential roles in facing the challenges imposed on the region. Therefore, I came to express this gratitude and the strong desire to work together for our future."
Accompanying Minister Al-Maqdad are Director of Arab Affairs Ambassador Riyad Abbas and Minister's Office Director Jamal Najib. "SANA" noted that "the visit comes to discuss the latest developments and changes in the Arab and international arenas and to coordinate positions between the two countries."
