Press Syndicate Council Urges Election of President

The new Press Syndicate Council held its first session following the recent elections and issued a statement praising: "the resilience of the people of Gaza and what they are subjected to in a genocidal war at the hands of the Israeli enemy's army, despite global appeals and international resolutions issued by the United Nations and international organizations, including the International Court. On this occasion, it is important to remind that this war, perpetrated by the Israeli army for the past eight months, has resulted in over 35,000 deaths, including seventy children and women, and 75,000 injured, most of whom are children and women."

It added: "Israel has not only limited its military attacks to the Gaza Strip but has also extended them to southern Lebanon, where Lebanon has suffered 400 martyrs along with the destruction of many villages and properties. Lebanese citizens are awaiting the election of a new president to restore stability and revive institutions, as the ongoing economic crisis, primarily the banking crisis, is more than enough for citizens to handle."

The new Press Syndicate Council called on "the esteemed parliamentary council and all political leaders to come together to elect a president of the republic, as it is unbecoming for a country characterized by democracy and freedoms to remain without a president for more than a year."
