The Finance Committee Completes the Provisions of Lebanon's 2024 Budget Law

The Finance and Budget Committee held a session chaired by MP Ibrahim Kanaan, where it continued the study and approval of the 2024 budget bill provisions. The committee has completed the study of the 2024 Budget Law materials and will proceed the day after tomorrow, Wednesday, to examine the allocations starting from the Presidency, the government, and its affiliated institutions.

After the session, MP Kanaan stated: "The objections to the budget project have, for the first time, brought together workers and employers, as the increases in taxes and fees have not exempted anyone, including the deceased, salaries, and consumers at various levels." He added: "We have adjusted the proposed increases on consumption fees to align with the cost of living index rather than being arbitrary as they were in the government’s proposal." Kanaan continued: "We have affirmed our rejection of the introduction of new taxes and fees that were not previously noted and have requested the government to prepare a table of the amended materials and their impact on the estimated deficit ratio, based on scientific studies rather than bookkeeping."
