Joan Laporta, the president of Barcelona, has decided to postpone the crucial meeting regarding the future of coach Xavi Hernandez for a mysterious reason. Xavi's statements about the team's inability to compete with Real Madrid and other top European clubs due to the club's economic circumstances have stirred Laporta's displeasure, who is contemplating firing the coach.
According to the newspaper "AS," sources from Barcelona reveal that Laporta opted to delay his decisive meeting with Xavi until after the match against Sevilla, in order not to distract the women's team, which will be playing in the Champions League final in Lyon next Saturday. The newspaper pointed out that Laporta's sudden interest in the women's team is curious, especially since he did not attend their recent trophy presentation due to scheduling conflicts.
Spanish reports from Sunday mentioned that the management is also evaluating the option of handing the leadership of Barcelona to Jonathan Giraldez, the coach of the women's team. It was explained that Laporta is keen on parting ways with Xavi, and if Barcelona had the funds, the decision to dismiss him would already have been made. It was noted that Laporta might repeat with Xavi what he did with Ronald Koeman, which is the principle of "you will stay because I haven't found another coach."
Moreover, it was revealed that Barcelona has the option to hire a low-cost coach, namely Rafa Marquez, who is currently leading the reserve team, but he is not a consensus choice within the board.
