The Chief of Staff of the Israeli Army, Herzi Halevi, announced that they have lost many soldiers in the Gaza Strip, but they will continue to fight to achieve their goal of "dismantling the capabilities of Hamas." He pointed out that the Israeli army is nearing the stage where it can be said that it has succeeded in defeating and dismantling the Hamas battalion in Rafah, southern Gaza. He stated that "defeating Hamas does not mean that it no longer exists, but it means that it is no longer capable of operating as a combat unit and attacking Israel."
