The Kremlin announced that the delivery of American "ATACMS" missiles to Ukraine will not change anything in the ongoing conflict, a day after Washington revealed it was supplying its ally with these long-range weapons. Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said during a meeting with journalists that "the United States is directly involved in this conflict and has taken a path aimed at extending the range of weapons systems, but this will not change the outcome of the special military operation."
On Wednesday, the U.S. State Department announced that the United States had sent ATACMS missiles to Ukraine in February at the direct request of President Joe Biden.
What are these missiles? The recently sent missiles to Ukraine have a longer range that can reach up to 300 kilometers, in response to a demand that Kyiv has been reiterating for a long time, allowing it to strike at Russian supply chains, depots, and military headquarters, far from the front lines.
A report published by the American network "CNN" indicated that the United States had secretly transferred long-range missiles to Ukraine capable of targeting areas inside Russia, which the Biden administration had previously hesitated to provide to Kyiv.
Military analysts believe that the U.S. shift in supplying Ukraine with ATACMS missiles may change the rules of the game in the war between Moscow and Kyiv, as it contributes to achieving tangible goals within Russia. They explained that Russian missile defenses will face a new test in intercepting the new American missiles.
More missiles are expected to be included in the new military aid package announced by the Pentagon on Wednesday after Biden signed a law for a support package that provides nearly $61 billion in assistance to Ukraine following months of delay in Congress. The military aid package includes vehicles, the Stinger air defense missile system, additional munitions for High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems, 155mm artillery ammunition, TOW and Javelin anti-tank missiles, and other weapons that can be used immediately on the battlefield.
