Former Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte stirred controversy on social media when he left his position, now in the hands of Dick Schoof. In front of journalists, Rutte bid farewell and rode his bicycle past dozens of attendees on the street. Former Dutch intelligence chief Dick Schoof took the oath of office on Monday as the new Prime Minister of the country’s right-wing government. After about 223 days following the election victory of far-right leader Geert Wilders, which surprised Europe and the world, Schoof assumes the role, succeeding Rutte after 14 years in power. Rutte is set to begin his new position on October 1, when the current NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg's 10-year term ends.
