Liverpool, led by its Egyptian star Mohamed Salah, will visit Manchester City tomorrow, Saturday, in a pivotal match of the twenty-ninth round of the English Premier League. Mohamed Salah is looking to achieve more records with Liverpool after becoming the all-time top scorer for the "Reds" in the Premier League.
Salah reached his 129th goal with Liverpool against Manchester United, making him the all-time top scorer for the team in the Premier League since its inception in the 1991-1992 season, surpassing former English forward Robbie Fowler, who has 128 goals.
If the Egyptian star manages to score against Manchester City, he will become Liverpool’s all-time top scorer away from home in the Premier League, currently tied with former English forward Michael Owen, both having 55 goals. Salah's last away goal in the Premier League was on December 26, 2022, against Aston Villa (3-1) in the seventeenth round of the league.
The Egyptian pharaoh is also aiming to score against Manchester City in four consecutive matches in a single season, a feat he has achieved in the Charity Shield, Premier League, and English League Cup, which would make him the first player in Liverpool's history to score against a single team in this manner since the 1978-1986 season when the legend Ian Rush did it against Everton.
During his time at Anfield, Mohamed Salah has scored 10 goals against Manchester City and is just one goal shy of matching the records of Gordon Hodgson (11 goals) and Sir Kenny Dalglish (11 goals), with Ian Rush leading the list with 15 goals.
Salah continues his journey toward the top of Liverpool’s all-time scorers, currently ranking seventh on the list of "Reds" players who have scored the most goals in all competitions. Here is the list of Liverpool’s all-time top scorers:
1. Ian Rush - 346 goals
2. Roger Hunt - 285 goals
3. Gordon Hodgson - 241 goals
4. Billy Liddell - 228 goals
5. Steven Gerrard - 186 goals
6. Robbie Fowler - 183 goals
7. Mohamed Salah - 178 goals.
Mohamed Salah (30 years old) has played 39 matches for Liverpool this season across all competitions, scoring 22 goals and providing 11 assists. Manchester City, the defending champions, currently sits in second place in the Premier League standings with 61 points (from 27 matches), trailing Arsenal, the leader, by 8 points. Meanwhile, Liverpool occupies sixth place on the table with 42 points, 7 points away from the Champions League qualifying positions for next season.
