The Spanish Football Federation has proposed 11 stadiums as candidates to host matches for the 2030 World Cup, including the stadiums of Real Madrid, Barcelona, and Atletico Madrid. The Spanish Federation stated today, Friday, that Spain, which will co-host the tournament with Portugal and Morocco, along with Argentina, Uruguay, and Paraguay who are hosting the centennial tournament, will also have 45 additional stadiums available as training facilities for the participating teams.
Other La Liga clubs that have included their home stadiums in the list are Sevilla, Malaga, Real Sociedad, Athletic Bilbao, Las Palmas, and newly promoted Espanyol. The Mestalla Stadium in Valencia, despite being the fifth largest stadium in La Liga with a capacity of 49,430 spectators, was not included in the list of potential venues.
The Spanish Federation's statement noted, "To determine the stadiums, all possibilities were analyzed, including the option to expand to 13 stadiums, which must be agreed upon unanimously by the three federations." The Federation added that the tournament will have a maximum of 20 stadiums.
Morocco announced last year plans to build a stadium near Casablanca and to upgrade six other stadiums before the World Cup.
