Escalation of Crossfire Between Lebanon and Israel Expands, Bombardment Hits New Areas on Both Sides

For the first time since the onset of the new wave of violence in Gaza and Southern Lebanon, the Israeli army expanded its targeting operations to include the borders of the town of Shiyyatiah, just a few kilometers from the border strip. Reports indicated two injuries after an Israeli drone targeted a motorcycle in Maiss al-Jabal. Meanwhile, air raid sirens sounded in Kiryat Shmona in the Galilee following reports of several rockets being fired from Lebanon. Israeli artillery bombardment reached the outskirts of the towns of Al-Bustan, Marwahin, Umm al-Tut, Zibqin, and the surrounding area of Al-Labuna. A video showed a house in Kiryat Shmona ablaze due to a rocket launched from Lebanon.

The Islamic resistance announced that "at 15:45 on Sunday, October 29, 2023, after careful monitoring, the fighters of the Islamic resistance discovered an Israeli infantry unit in the vicinity of the Malakiyah location, and they promptly targeted it with appropriate weapons, causing confirmed injuries." Additionally, "the Islamic resistance targeted the Misgav Am site at ten o'clock on Sunday morning with suitable weapons, destroying part of its technical and logistical setups."

The Israeli army fired around ten shells at the heights of the town of Kfarshuba in the Hasbaya district and fired illuminating bombs over the forests of the town of Hilta. An Israeli drone carried out an airstrike on a house in the town of Aita al-Shaab. Furthermore, the artillery of the Israeli army bombarded the surrounding forests of the towns of Naqoura and Alama al-Shaab this Sunday morning with incendiary shells.

A correspondent from Al-Manar reported that the enemy army launched illuminating shells in the skies over the forests of the heights of Hilta and Shanuha south of Kfarshuba. The previous night, incendiary shells were fired at the forests adjacent to the Blue Line to ignite fires, while illuminating bombs were dropped in the skies over both the western and central sectors, amid reconnaissance aircraft flying over the region.

The official spokesperson for "UNIFIL," Andrea Tenenti, stated that "two mortar shells fell yesterday, Saturday, around ten in the evening on a UNIFIL base near the town of Hula, resulting in injuries to one peacekeeper who was immediately evacuated for treatment." He added, "The peacekeeper sustained minor injuries and was quickly transferred to the hospital at UNIFIL's headquarters in Naqoura, where his condition is currently stable." Tenenti further noted, "Yesterday, UNIFIL positions were targeted twice: in the afternoon with a shell that hit our headquarters in Naqoura, and last night around Hula."

The UNIFIL spokesperson expressed grave concern over these attacks on soldiers who are tirelessly working to restore stability in Southern Lebanon and calm the dangerous situation. Tenenti concluded, "We strongly urge all parties involved in the conflict to cease fire immediately. Attacking United Nations peacekeepers is a crime and a violation of international law and should be condemned. Investigations into both incidents have begun."
