Authorities in Queensland, Australia, have evacuated hundreds of guests from a hotel in Cairns after a helicopter collided with the hotel's roof. Media reports indicate that emergency crews were called following the incident at the Doubletree hotel, part of the Hilton hotel chain, located in Cairns, which is known as the gateway to the Great Barrier Reef in Australia.
Queensland Police stated in a release, "The building has been evacuated as a precaution and no one on the ground has been injured. Police are on the scene to investigate the circumstances."
The condition of the helicopter pilot has not been specified by the police, nor whether there were passengers on board the aircraft. However, a video posted on social media showed a fire on the roof of the hotel. Australian media reports indicated that two blades from the helicopter detached, with one falling into the hotel pool.
