Saudi news channel Al-Ikhbariya announced early Friday morning that Manchester City striker, Algerian Riyad Mahrez, has completed his transfer to Al Ahli Saudi FC.
The channel mentioned on Twitter that "Algerian Riyad Mahrez is a new player for Al Ahli club, coming from European champion Manchester City," but did not provide further details. The club based in Jeddah has not yet made an official announcement.
Mahrez scored 78 goals and provided 59 assists in 236 matches for City across all competitions, winning 11 titles with the club, including the league title five times, since his transfer to Manchester City from Leicester City in 2018.
The 32-year-old player saw his role decline with the team last season, netting 15 goals in 47 matches, but he missed the FA Cup and UEFA Champions League finals in a season where City achieved a historic treble.
Mahrez renewed his contract last year until 2025. He becomes the latest notable player to move to the Saudi Pro League, which has become attractive to stars since Cristiano Ronaldo's transfer to Al Nassr last January.
Mahrez follows the path of Senegal goalkeeper Edouard Mendy, who joined a Saudi team from Chelsea last month.
Last month, the Saudi Public Investment Fund announced a project for investing in and privatizing sports clubs, including Al Ittihad, Al Ahli, Al Nassr, and Al Hilal.
