The Iranian Mehr News Agency announced that the Iranian Space Agency (ISA) is planning to launch two new satellites into low Earth orbit from a Russian spaceport. The agency noted that ISA head Hassan Salarri announced on July 9 that the agency intends to launch the Kosar satellite for monitoring and the Hudhud satellite for communications within the year, both designed and built by private companies. The Kosar satellite has a service life of two years and will be used for agricultural purposes, geodetic surveys, and border demarcation. The mission of the Hudhud satellite focuses on the Internet of Things and transportation. According to the agency, the two satellites are scheduled for launch in October from one of the Russian spaceports. It is worth mentioning that on February 29, the Iranian satellite Pars-1 was launched into space alongside a group of Russian satellites using the Soyuz-2.1b launch vehicle from the Vostochny Cosmodrome. The head of the Iranian Space Agency announced on February 26 that in the second half of 2024, operations will begin at the new Chabahar spaceport located in the southeast of the country, allowing Iran to independently launch space rockets and satellites.
