Ain al-Hilweh: Joint Forces Clear Schools of Militants

The Palestinian joint security force in the Ain al-Hilweh camp completed its deployment near the school cluster in the emergency area - lower Tammir and the upper street of Bustan al-Quds. The operation began at 2 PM from their headquarters in the lower street, attended by members of the Palestinian joint action authority and the commander of the joint forces, Major General Mahmoud al-Ajuri. The forces split into two units, one moving through Tammir and the other via Bustan al-Quds, successfully entering the school complex and fully evacuating it of militants from the "Fatah" movement and the "Muslim Youth Gathering," positioning themselves in front.

This step is expected to reassure families and encourage them to return home, with all parties showing flexibility and positivity to resolve issues that could reignite tensions in the camp. National Security Forces spokesman in Sidon, Youssef al-Zreiyy, stated, "Our forces evacuated the Samou School and the camp director’s office while the (terrorist groups) withdrew from the schools of Baisan, Safad, and Naqoura, with the joint Palestinian force deployed at the entrances of these schools."

Hamas representative Ahmad Abdul Hadi commented on the successful deployment of the joint security force near UNRWA schools, deeming it "a very important step in the right direction," part of President Nabih Berri's initiative to end the camp crisis and restore normalcy, facilitating the return of displaced residents and delivering suspects to Lebanese authorities. He emphasized the importance of completing further steps, especially removing armed manifestations and disarming militants.

Osama Saad, Secretary General of the National People's Organization, met with the Secretary of the Palestinian Liberation Organization in Lebanon, Major General Fathi Abu al-Ardat, to discuss developments in Ain al-Hilweh, including the deployment of the joint security force. The attendees expressed their satisfaction with these steps, viewing them as initial moves towards completing previously agreed points, including delivering those wanted for the assassination of General al-Armooshi and his companions.

The leadership of the "Palestinian Forces Coalition" in Sidon expressed its contentment with the deployment of joint forces in al-Buraq and al-Tiri. They discussed the security and social situation within the camp and agreed on the following points: 1 - Continue to deploy the joint forces around schools on Friday with representatives of the Palestinian joint action authority present. 2 - Work on delivering suspects in the assassination of Abu Ashraf al-Armooshi and his companions according to Berri’s initiative. 3 - Enhance security and stability in the camp to ensure favorable conditions for the return of displaced persons. 4 - Urge UNRWA and civil society organizations to fulfill their responsibilities regarding the reconstruction of destroyed and damaged homes. 5 - Preserve Ain al-Hilweh and all camps as centers for struggle and dignified return. 6 - Reject reliance on weapons and assassination policies, advocating dialogue.

In another incident, Palestinian National Security leader in Sidon, Abu Muhammad Fahd, acted upon instructions from the head of Palestinian National Security in Lebanon, Major General Sobhi Abu Arab, to turn over the shooter involved in an altercation earlier in the morning at the vegetable market inside the camp to army intelligence for necessary action. The joint security force leader in Ain al-Hilweh, Major General Mahmoud al-Ajuri, clarified that the morning shooting resulted from a personal dispute, unrelated to the deployment of joint security forces at the entrances of UNRWA schools.

The Friday morning incident in Ain al-Hilweh caused the injury of one person, who was taken to "Humanitarian Call" hospital within the camp and later transferred outside for treatment. Reports indicate the altercation escalated to gunfire.

Moreover, the media office of Fatah in Sidon highlighted circulated rumors regarding a resolution for the suspected murderers of General Abu Ashraf al-Armooshi, suggesting a discussion about removing them from the camp. This was denied by Basem Kijak representing Amal Movement, insisting that such claims were untrue, and the meeting focused on the complete implementation of the previously agreed steps, including delivering suspects to Lebanese justice.

A broad meeting was held at the office of Sheikh Maher Hamoud to address concerns among all parties regarding the continuation of the joint security forces' deployment and the evacuation of schools, aiming to eliminate all armed appearances and facilitate the delivery of suspects. The meeting reaffirmed the commitment to execute the deployment and evacuation as scheduled after Friday prayers, with full cooperation from all involved to prevent any breaches in the planned procedures.

Concerns about the renewal of clashes have heightened politically after a member of Fatah's central committee overseeing the Palestinian scene in Lebanon, Azam al-Ahmad, announced a deadline by the end of September for delivering the perpetrators involved in the assassination of General Abu Ashraf al-Armooshi.
