Several clubs across various global leagues are competing to secure the contract of the famous Portuguese coach José Mourinho in the upcoming period. His last coaching experience was with AS Roma, from which he was dismissed in January.
According to the French newspaper "L'Équipe," Mourinho is at the top of the list of candidates to take over the coaching position at Saudi club Al-Ittihad next season, especially with the club's desire to remove their Argentine coach Marcelo Gallardo due to recent poor results. Al-Ittihad finished the current season of the Saudi Professional League (Roshen League) in fifth place, accumulating 54 points from 34 matches, failing to qualify for the next edition of the AFC Champions League.
The newspaper added that alongside Mourinho, several other coaches are also on the shortlist for the Saudi club, including Italian Massimiliano Allegri, the former Juventus coach, and French Bruno Genesio, the former manager of Lyon.
The report also mentioned that Al-Ittihad is not the only club from the Roshen League targeting the 61-year-old coach; there are negotiations from newly promoted club Al-Qadsiah as well.
Spanish newspaper "AS" stated that Turkish club Fenerbahçe is also keen on signing Mourinho this summer, with Ali Yıldırım, a candidate for the club's presidency, confirming that he spoke with the Portuguese coach over the phone regarding the coaching position. Yıldırım indicated that if he officially wins the election scheduled for June 9, Mourinho would start coaching the Turkish team the following day.
The newspaper clarified that the former Real Madrid coach's priority is to continue working in the top five European leagues. However, with the substantial financial offers from the Roshen League, Mourinho is considering the offers he has received over the next two weeks and will decide on his future after this period.
It is expected that the next coaching position will be the tenth in Mourinho's managerial career, having previously coached nine clubs, including Real Madrid, Inter Milan, Manchester United, Chelsea (twice), Tottenham, Roma, Benfica, Porto, and Leiria in Portugal.
