Qatar's Foreign Minister stated in a press conference on Thursday, October 28, 2021, that the goal of reaching net zero emissions by 2050, adopted by many countries, is "unrealistic." Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, who is also the Deputy Prime Minister, mentioned that his country is working to increase liquefied natural gas production capacity by more than 50% from current levels by 2026. He added, "Qatar has invested $30 billion in expanding liquefied natural gas production capacity, as this is the only way for a smooth energy transition, which requires many factors."
