U.S. President Donald Trump has announced that the United States will retaliate against an Iranian attack targeting American forces in Jordan, warning of delivering a "strong blow" to Iran.
Trump stated that U.S. forces managed to intercept all but one of the Iranian missiles. He assured that the one missile that was not intercepted "posed no threat."
The statements followed Iran's launch of ballistic missiles toward bases used by U.S. forces in Jordan. The launch was a response to American airstrikes targeting two missile launch sites on Iran's Lark Island near the Strait of Hormuz. The Jordanian military reported intercepting eight missiles that breached its airspace with no injuries recorded.
On Sunday, U.S. forces carried out strikes on the Iranian launch platforms on Lark Island. Washington claimed these sites were preparing to deploy naval mines in the Strait of Hormuz, marking the first direct military confrontation between the U.S. and Iran since late July.
Trump's threat of retaliation comes after this direct exchange of attacks, with anticipation growing over the nature of the next U.S. military move.
