Jose Mourinho experienced one of the biggest defeats in his coaching career after Roma's shocking 6-1 loss to hosts Bodo/Glimt, the Norwegian champions, in the UEFA Europa Conference League on Thursday. Eric Botheim and Ola Solbakken each scored two goals for the home team, which led 2-1 at halftime and dominated the match completely after the break, stunning the Italian side. This is the first time in 1,008 matches during his coaching career that a team led by Mourinho has conceded 6 goals or more.
Mourinho rested several of his key players and perhaps hoped for an easy night in Norway, but he paid the price. The 58-year-old Portuguese coach told Sky Sports: "I decided to play this lineup, so I take responsibility. I did it with good intentions to give hardworking players a chance and to follow a rotation policy."
This defeat may not have been as painful for Mourinho as the humiliating 5-0 loss of Real Madrid to Barcelona in 2010, but Roma, which started the Europa Conference League with two victories, currently sits in second place in its group with six points, one point behind Bodo/Glimt.
