Signing of Investment Contract for the First Coffee Farming City in Saudi Arabia

The Saudi Ministry of Environment, Water, and Agriculture has signed an investment contract for the first coffee city in the Kingdom for a duration of 15 years, with the agricultural cooperative association of Baljurashi, located in the Al-Bahah region (southwestern Saudi Arabia). The ministry clarified in a statement yesterday, Wednesday, that this step aims to achieve self-sufficiency in agricultural products and crops, encourage agricultural investment, enhance vegetation cover, create job opportunities for local residents, and strengthen the role of cooperative societies in Saudi Arabia.

The ministry indicated that the project includes the cultivation of 300,000 Arabian coffee seedlings and high-yield pomegranate trees. It added that the project's location will be in the village of Ma'shoqa in the Al-Qurra Governorate of the Al-Bahah region, covering an area of 1,662,373 square meters. The project will feature a model farm, a modern integrated nursery for cultivating coffee seedlings, and an industrial center that includes workshops and storage facilities, a business center offering services and hospitality accommodations, a training center, as well as a building for security personnel, housing for workers, and administrative and control offices, along with the construction of a wall surrounding the city and a mosque.

It is worth mentioning that the Ministry of Environment, Water, and Agriculture is working on the development of production, manufacturing, and marketing of Arabian coffee, and regions such as Jazan, Al-Bahah, and Asir are among the most significant and extensively coffee-cultivating areas in the Kingdom.
