Egyptian actor Ahmed Khalil passed away on Tuesday at the age of 80 after battling the COVID-19 virus. The news of Khalil's death was confirmed by Ashraf Zaki, the head of the Egyptian Actors' Syndicate, who shared a photo of the late artist on his official Instagram page, accompanied by the remark: "May he rest in peace, farewell to the giant." Zaki stated in an interview with "Al-Masry Al-Youm" that the funeral will be held from the Police Mosque in Sheikh Zayed City, Cairo, following the Dhuhr prayer.
Egyptian media reported that Ahmed Khalil's condition deteriorated in recent days due to his battle with COVID-19, which necessitated his hospitalization. Born in Dakahlia Governorate in 1941, Khalil showcased his artistic inclinations during school, later joining the Higher Institute of Dramatic Arts, from which he graduated in 1965. After being appointed as a teaching assistant at the institute, he joined Al-Jeep Theater and participated in nine plays, starting from supporting roles to leading roles in productions such as "Ya Tal'e Al-Shajara," "Yassin and Bahiyya," and "Love Under Guard."
The late artist had numerous film credits, including "Three Faces of Love," "Wild Flowers," and "The Encounter." He also made significant contributions to television drama, notable among them being the series "Hawanim Garden City," which brought him widespread fame, along with "Hadith Al-Sabah wal-Masaa," and "Zaman Imad Din," according to the website "Cinema.com."
