Italian club Juventus announced that their Dutch defender Matthijs de Ligt has tested positive for COVID-19 after tests were conducted on players ahead of the match against Sassuolo on Sunday at the Juventus Arena, as part of the seventeenth round of the Italian league.
In a statement published on its official website, Juventus said: "Juventus Football Club announces that during the tests stipulated in the applicable protocol, Matthijs de Ligt's COVID-19 test came back positive. The player has already been placed in medical isolation." De Ligt joins his teammates at Juventus who have contracted COVID-19, including Brazilian Alex Sandro and Colombian Juan Cuadrado, who missed the recent league match against Milan, which Juventus won 3-1. Notably, Juventus is currently in fourth place in the Serie A standings with 30 points and has a game in hand against Napoli, trailing seven points behind the leaders, Milan.
