Slovak Prime Minister: The One Who Attempted to Assassinate Me is a Dissident, Not a Madman

Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico confirmed that he rules out the possibility that the person who attempted to assassinate him and shot at him is a "lonely madman," indicating that the opposition is the one that tried to get rid of him. In his first video message since the assassination attempt last month, Fico stated, "On May 15, due to my political views, one of the Slovak opposition activists tried to kill me." He pointed out that the media and non-governmental organizations opposing his government would try to downplay the incident and deny any connection between the shooter and the opposition. Fico added, "I have no reason to believe that this was an attack by a madman," reminding that "some time before the assassination attempt, he had stated based on his political experience the likelihood of an assassination attempt in Slovakia against one of the politicians representing the government."
