IMF Delegation Begins Crucial Meetings in Lebanon

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) delegation is set to begin its visit to Lebanon on Tuesday, September 15, lasting until the 18th. The visit involves a series of meetings and discussions with the Ministry of Finance and other public bodies involved in financial, economic, and reform-related files. The Ministry of Finance will be the central hub for these discussions.

The delegation will kick off its schedule at 9:00 AM with a preliminary technical meeting with officials from the Ministry of Finance.

Following that, at 10:00 AM, there will be a meeting with the Ministers of Finance and Economy and Trade, and representatives from the offices of the Presidency, the government, and the Central Bank of Lebanon. This meeting will focus on the Medium-Term Fiscal Framework (MTFF) and the 2027 budget proposal and will continue until 12:30 PM.

The program resumes on Wednesday, September 16, at 10:00 AM with a technical meeting with the Ministry of Finance discussing financial performance and forecasts, involving the Director General of Finance and specialized departments, continuing until 11:30 AM. From 11:30 AM to 1:00 PM, another technical meeting will focus on updates to the Medium-Term Fiscal Framework, featuring departments of monetary management, budget, financial economy, revenue, and spending. The meetings will reconvene at 2:30 PM and continue until 4:00 PM to discuss the 2027 budget.

On Thursday, September 17, meetings begin at 9:00 AM and run until 10:30 AM, covering reconstruction and investment spending, with participation from relevant bodies including the Council for Development and Reconstruction and the Ministry of Public Works and Transport. From 10:30 AM to 12:00 PM, the delegation will discuss social spending with the Ministry of Social Affairs.

Thursday's meetings resume at 2:30 PM and continue until 3:30 PM, engaging the Electricité du Liban to address recent developments and structural reform in the electricity sector. Discussions with the Central Bank of Lebanon on the financial gap will be held at the Phoenicia Hotel—first on Tuesday, September 15, from 2:00 to 5:00 PM, and second on Wednesday from 9:00 to 11:00 AM.

The delegation will conclude its program on Friday, September 18, with a meeting at the Ministry of Finance from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM, focusing on debt and financing.
These meetings are part of ongoing cooperation between Lebanon and the IMF, continuing discussions on reform, financial, and economic issues, and building on progress made in the reform path, which includes reforming the banking sector and continuing work on key issues related to financial stability and restoring confidence in the Lebanese economy.
