Does Involvement in Household Chores Affect Children's Intelligence?

A new study has found that young children's participation in household chores with their parents can contribute to improvements in their cognitive function. The study, which surveyed over 200 parents, found that routine involvement can enhance a child's ability to plan, switch between tasks, remember instructions, and control their behavior. The research revealed that routine self-care tasks, such as preparing food for oneself, and family-oriented tasks, like preparing a meal for someone else, significantly predict working memory and behavioral control. The study also discovered that encouraging children to engage in household chores can be strategically used to target capability deficits.
