Sri Lankan Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe has agreed to resign after parliamentary party leaders urged him and the beleaguered president to step down, on the same day that protesters stormed the president's residence and office. On Saturday, the Prime Minister's spokesperson, Dinouk Colombage, stated that Ranil Wickremesinghe informed party leaders that he would resign once all parties agreed on the formation of a new government. His decision came after the largest wave of protests in Sri Lanka, where tens of thousands breached barriers and entered the residence of President Gotabaya Rajapaksa and his nearby office to express their anger at a leader they hold responsible for the country’s worst economic crisis.
