Turkish Defense Minister Hulusi Akar announced today the conclusion of the military operation "Claw Eagle-2" in northern Iraq.
According to the Turkish agency "Anadolu," Akar stated that the "Claw Eagle-2" operation conducted by the Turkish army in northern Iraq has ended after neutralizing 50 members of the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK). He also mentioned the killing of 13 Turkish civilians by the PKK in the Gara region of Iraq. Turkey launched "Claw Eagle-2" last Wednesday against PKK targets in northern Iraq, just two days after initiating "Eren-8" military operations against the PKK in three provinces in the south of the country. The Ministry of Interior reported that the operation, involving 1,670 security forces, was initiated in the provinces of Hatay, Gaziantep, and Osmaniye.
A Turkish intelligence unit captured Ibrahim Barim, a key logistician for the PKK, in a successful operation in the city of Sinjar in northern Iraq and managed to transfer him to Turkey.
It is noteworthy that the Turkish Ministry of Defense announced the initiation of "Claw Eagle" in mid-June 2020 against the PKK in northern Iraq. In response, the Iraqi government summoned Turkish Ambassador to Baghdad Fatih Yıldız multiple times to protest the military operations and threatened to file a complaint with the United Nations Security Council, deploying Iraqi border guard forces. However, the deployment of these forces did not stop Turkey from continuing its artillery shelling.
