Death Sentence for Sara Khalifa and 12 Defendants: A Drug Trafficking Case that Shocked Egypt

The Cairo Criminal Court has sentenced Sara Khalifa and 12 others to death and imposed life imprisonment on 9 other defendants, while acquitting 7 people, in a case related to an organized gang involved in the production and distribution of synthetic drugs. The authorities seized more than 750 kilograms of narcotics and the raw materials used for their production.

The court's ruling marked the conclusion of one of Egypt's most high-profile drug cases, generating significant public interest due to the extensive quantities of drugs involved and the nature of the defendants' activities.

The investigation involves charges against 28 individuals accused of forming a criminal organization allegedly specializing in importing raw materials from abroad to manufacture synthetic drugs, preparing them for trade, as well as illegal possession of firearms and ammunition.

More than 750 Kilograms Seized

Investigations revealed that the defendants used a residential property as a storage facility for raw materials and a site for drug production and preparation.

Security forces seized over 750 kilograms of drugs and the initial substances used in their manufacturing, along with related equipment and tools for production and processing.

According to the published investigation documents, the seized items included approximately 648 kilograms of derivatives of the substance "Andazol Carbocasmide" and about 51 kilograms of powders and chemical solutions involved in the manufacturing process, in addition to quantities of hashish and "Phenethylamine."

Authorities also found mixing and packaging tools, containers, a precision scale, and protective gear including gas masks and gloves.

The seizures also included sums of money, mobile phones, and electronic devices which the investigators stated were linked to the defendants' activities and communication networks.

Furthermore, a shotgun, a 9mm pistol, and 44 live bullets were confiscated, according to the investigation details.

What Did the Investigation Reveal About Sara Khalifa's Role?

According to the investigations, roles within the organization were divided among the defendants, with some responsible for sourcing and importing raw materials, while others handled production and packaging, and another group was involved in marketing and distribution.

Investigations attributed a major role to Sara Khalifa, alleging that she provided necessary funding, traveled abroad to meet with other defendants, and coordinated the purchase of materials required for manufacturing.

As per the case documents, other defendants were tasked with bringing these materials into Egypt, with one fugitive suspect possessing Iraqi nationality.
