Under the title "Lebanese Foreign Minister Admits: We Are Unable to Contain Hezbollah," the Al Arabiya website reported on the crisis between Gulf countries and Lebanon, highlighting that Lebanese Foreign Minister Abdallah Bouhabib acknowledged his government's inability to limit Hezbollah's role in the country. The Lebanese Foreign Minister stated that the government cannot contain Hezbollah, pointing out that the issue is regional in nature.
His remarks came during a discussion about the crisis with Saudi Arabia and Gulf countries. Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud emphasized that the problem in Lebanon lies in Hezbollah's dominance over the political system, rather than in specific personal statements.
Additionally, in a special interview with Al Arabiya, he mentioned that there is no crisis between Saudi Arabia and Lebanon; rather, there is the dominance of Iranian proxies over Lebanon. The Saudi minister called on Lebanese officials to restore their country to its previous standing in the Arab world, asserting that Lebanon needs reform due to Hezbollah's control over key decision-making areas and its border outlets.
These statements followed heightened tensions between Lebanon and several Gulf nations after comments made by Lebanese Information Minister George Qardahi, prompting actions from Saudi Arabia, which withdrew its ambassador from Lebanon, followed by similar actions from the UAE, Kuwait, Bahrain, and Yemen. It is noted that Minister Qardahi's comments regarding Yemen and the Houthi militias stirred significant controversy, leading many politicians in Lebanon to demand his dismissal.
