The Saudi Ministry of Energy announced that the Kingdom will join the United States, Canada, Norway, and Qatar in establishing a new forum called the "Zero-Emission Forum for Producers." This platform will discuss how oil and gas-producing countries can support the implementation of the Paris Agreement on climate change, which aims to achieve net-zero emissions. A responsible source in the ministry confirmed to the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) that the Kingdom is committed to the full implementation of the Paris Agreement, which considers the rights and obligations of countries, focusing on their specific national circumstances. It acknowledges that there are different national pathways and strategies to reduce and remove emissions, highlighting the Kingdom's call to adopt a circular carbon economy as a comprehensive approach to emission management.
A joint statement from forum members revealed that "Canada, Norway, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the United States, collectively representing 40% of global oil and gas production, will meet to form a collaborative forum that develops practical strategies to achieve net-zero emissions. This includes reducing methane emissions, enhancing the circular carbon economy approach, developing and deploying clean energy technologies, including carbon capture and storage, diversifying income sources away from hydrocarbon revenues, and other measures tailored to the national circumstances of each country."
