Imam and mosque preacher Sheikh Hani Al-Shahat was involved in a tragic accident in the Nasr City area of Cairo, resulting in his death. The accident occurred when a heavy truck collided with the preacher's car, crushing it in front of bystanders. The incident took place near the mosque where he served, close to Makram Ebeid Street in Nasr City. Surveillance cameras captured the moments leading to the truck running over the imam’s car, dragging it for a considerable distance, which led to his demise.
In response, the security forces intensified their presence in the area and secured the surveillance footage while interviewing witnesses present at the scene to understand the circumstances of the incident. Preliminary investigations revealed that speeding was the cause of the crash between the truck and the private car.
Last night, the security forces arrested the truck driver implicated in the case and initiated the necessary legal procedures. The case was referred to the prosecution for further investigation, and the prosecution authorized the burial of the imam's body.
A wave of sadness spread across social media, where Sheikh Hani was known for his good reputation, particularly among local residents. Users shared videos and photos of the imam, praying for his mercy and forgiveness. They also circulated his last post on social media, which was a video of one of his religious poems, with the caption, "O Allah, grant us a good ending for all."
