The Italian football club Juventus announced on Friday the return of coach Massimiliano Allegri to the helm of its technical staff, two years after his departure, just hours after the dismissal of Andrea Pirlo. The club's statement read, "Welcome back home, Max... Massimiliano Allegri is Juventus coach once again." Allegri led the Bianconeri to five consecutive titles in Serie A between 2014 and 2019, four domestic cups, and was a runner-up in the Champions League in 2015 and 2017.
During his first term from 2014 to 2019, Allegri guided the Turin-based team to five consecutive Serie A titles. Additionally, he won the Coppa Italia four times with Juventus and reached the Champions League final twice.
Earlier on Friday, Juventus announced the termination of coach Andrea Pirlo’s contract after only one season at the helm. The club wrote on its website, "Good luck, Andrea Pirlo! Thank you, Andrea." A brief message on Juventus's site stated, "These are the first words we should say to him after this special experience together." It added that "two months ago, Andrea Pirlo, one of football's stars, began his new adventure, which was his first as a coach."
Juventus appointed Pirlo as its manager last summer without any prior coaching experience. Under his leadership, the team failed to defend its league title, finishing fourth at the end of the current season. It is anticipated that the former manager Massimiliano Allegri will return to the Turin club to replace the dismissed coach.
