Egyptian Mayar Sherif First Egyptian Player to Qualify for the Australian Open

The Egyptian star Mayar Sherif achieved her third victory tonight in the qualifying rounds, defeating Serbian Aleksandra Krunic in straight sets, with a score of (6-1, 6-2), ensuring her participation in the Australian Open for the first time in her history.

This makes her the first Egyptian woman to participate in the main draw of the Australian Open, which is the first of the four Grand Slam tournaments, set to take place in Melbourne from February 8 to 21 next.

At the age of 24, Mayar Sherif will be able to compete in several international tournaments held in Australia, as the Australian Tennis Federation decided that participation in the tournaments it organizes will be limited to those who qualify for the Australian Open. Last September, Mayar Sherif made history when she qualified for the main draw of the French Open, becoming the first Egyptian woman to participate in the main draw at Roland Garros.

It's worth mentioning that the qualifiers took place in Dubai, marking the first time they have been held outside of Australia in its long history of 116 years.
