The British newspaper "The Sun" reported that Liverpool is considering allowing Egyptian star Mohamed Salah to leave the team during the ongoing summer transfer window due to stalled contract renewal negotiations. Salah, 30, has a contract with Liverpool that ends in the summer of 2023, and discussions regarding an extension have reached a dead end, with Real Madrid on alert.
"The Sun" mentioned that Liverpool will permit Salah's departure this summer if they receive an offer of £60 million, following in the footsteps of his former teammate, Senegalese forward Sadio Mané, who left "Anfield" days ago for Bayern Munich for £35 million, a year before his contract expired.
The report indicated that the "Reds" management is concerned about the potential free departure of their Egyptian star next summer as a result of failing to reach a final agreement on a new contract.
Furthermore, the newspaper noted that Liverpool wishes for Salah to remain in their ranks but is reluctant to meet his financial demands for fear of disrupting the team’s wage structure, as the player seeks £400,000 per week.
"The Sun" confirmed that Real Madrid is monitoring the situation and could present a significant offer for Salah, despite the strained relations between Salah and Real's stars following confrontations before the Champions League final on two occasions over the past five seasons.
Salah is among those sought after in the current summer transfer market, particularly to offset the failed acquisition of Kylian Mbappé from Paris Saint-Germain. Notably, Mohamed Salah was the top scorer in the Premier League last season, with 23 goals, tied with South Korean star Heung-min Son from Tottenham.
