Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov expressed his concerns regarding the airstrike on Damascus International Airport during a meeting with the Israeli Ambassador to Moscow, Alexander Ben Tsvii. He noted that the justification provided by the Israeli side was unconvincing.
In a statement published on the official Russian Foreign Ministry website, Bogdanov expressed serious concern over the airstrike carried out by the Israeli Air Force on June 10, which damaged the runway, equipment, and navigational buildings, causing disruptions to international civil aviation. He mentioned that the damages halted humanitarian supply operations conducted by UN aviation services to millions of Syrians.
Bogdanov informed the Israeli ambassador that the justification provided for the airstrike on Damascus International Airport appeared unconvincing, and Moscow is awaiting further clarifications, including within the framework of the existing Russian-Israeli mechanism to prevent serious incidents in the Syrian direction. He reiterated that Russia consistently maintains that Syrian territory should not be turned into “a battlefield for third countries," insisting on respect for Syria's territorial integrity and sovereignty according to international law and the United Nations Charter.
It is noteworthy that the Russian Foreign Ministry strongly condemned the airstrike executed by Israeli aviation on Damascus International Airport, which has rendered the airport non-operational. The official spokesperson for the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, also expressed Moscow's condemnation of the airstrike.
