The Lebanon national basketball team has claimed its first title in history at the Arab Men’s Basketball Championship, triumphing over Tunisia in the final with a score of 72-69 at the Rashid bin Hamdan Hall of Al-Nasr Club. The match was highly thrilling from every aspect, both on the court and in the stands, where fans from both Lebanese and Tunisian sides gathered, passionately supporting their players until the final second of the game.
The stands at Al-Nasr Club were completely filled, and thousands were outside the hall unable to enter, marking one of the largest attendances for the sport in years.
Tunisia had previously won four titles in 1981, 1983, 2008, and 2009, but they failed to regain their stature despite leading until the last minute of the match. The Lebanese players' strong desire to seize their first title in history prevailed.
The Tunisian team finished as the runners-up, while Algeria secured third place after defeating Somalia with a score of 93-79, marking Somalia's participation after a 17-year absence from Arab championships.
The winning teams were presented with their trophies by Major General (retired) Ismail Al-Qarqaoui, President of the UAE and Arab Basketball Federations, Issa Hilal, President of the Sharjah Sports Council, and Saeed Hareb, Secretary General of the Dubai Sports Council.
The match between the champion and the runner-up was intense and remained undecided until the final seconds, but the Lebanese team managed to secure victory due to the wealth of experience among its players.
