The Benito Villamarín Stadium hosted the match between Real Betis and their guests, Real Sociedad, in the Round of 16 of the Copa del Rey.
Real Betis reached the quarterfinals of the Copa del Rey after defeating Real Sociedad with a score of 3-1 after extra time, as the match ended in a 1-1 draw during regulation. Mikel Oyarzabal scored the first goal for Sociedad in the 13th minute, and Sergio Canales equalized for Betis in the 78th minute, taking the match into extra time.
During extra time, Betis player Borja Iglesias scored two goals in the 96th and 111th minutes, respectively, leading his team to qualify for the quarterfinals. The referee sent off a player from Real Sociedad in the 48th minute and another from Betis in the 76th minute for receiving two yellow cards each.
It is worth mentioning that the companions of Algerian defender Aïssa Mandi, the Betis team, will play their quarterfinal match in the Copa del Rey on February 3rd.
