Iranian President Hassan Rouhani commented on what he described as his country's victory over the United States at the International Court of Justice in The Hague.
According to the Al-Mayadeen channel, Rouhani stated: "Our victory in The Hague is a significant legal success against the United States." This statement follows the court's firm rejection of the American objections regarding Iran's complaint against Washington.
Earlier, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif characterized the event as a major legal victory for Iran, emphasizing that it is time for the US to fulfill its international obligations, according to the Tasnim agency.
Zarif tweeted: "The International Court of Justice in The Hague has now rejected all the US's preliminary objections to Iran's complaint regarding illegal US sanctions, another legal victory for Iran following the ruling issued on October 3, 2018." He added, "Iran has always fully respected international laws... It is now time for the United States to also meet its international commitments."
For his part, US State Department spokesman Ned Price expressed disappointment on Wednesday about the court's decision to affirm its jurisdiction over Iran's lawsuit demanding the lifting of sanctions on Tehran.
Price stated in a press conference regarding the decision: "We strongly respect the International Court of Justice, but we are disappointed by its decision today. Washington disagrees with the court and believes it is not competent to hear the case."
