The contract of the Argentine legend Lionel Messi with FC Barcelona ends on June 30, 2021.
Manchester City, the leader of the English Premier League, is seeking to sign Barcelona's captain, Argentine Lionel Messi, during the next summer transfer window. The British newspaper "The Sun" reported that Manchester City has reduced its offer to Messi by £170 million compared to what was previously offered. The report indicated that City had made an offer to Messi six months ago that included a five-year contract worth £600 million, which would mean Messi earning £2.3 million per week.
"The Sun" confirmed that Manchester City's new offer for next season will be only £430 million for five years. The new offer will include a two-year contract with Messi, with an option for a 12-month extension, after which Messi would move to New York City FC, owned by the City Football Group, a holding company established in 2014 to oversee the creation and management of a group of football clubs under the auspices of Manchester City.
Manchester City will agree to an eight-year contract duration, with Messi serving as an ambassador for the City Football Group, which owns seven other clubs in addition to Manchester City and New York City FC, including Belgian club Lommel, Indian club Mumbai City, Australian club Melbourne City, Japanese club Yokohama F. Marinos, Chinese club Sichuan Jiuniu, Spanish club Girona, and Montevideo City in Uruguay. It is worth noting that Manchester City will face strong competition from Paris Saint-Germain for Messi's signature if he decides to leave Barcelona.
