Tennis Player Rankings: Medvedev Regains Top Spot, Djokovic Drops

Russian Daniil Medvedev has returned to the top of the ATP tennis rankings on Monday, surpassing Serbian Novak Djokovic, who fell to third place, while German Alexander Zverev is now in second place. This is the first time since 2003 that neither Djokovic, Spanish Rafael Nadal, nor Swiss Roger Federer occupies the top two positions.

Medvedev, 26, first reached the world number one ranking on February 28, but he held it for only two weeks due to disappointing results in subsequent tournaments. Djokovic lost his title at the French Open, the second of the four Grand Slam tournaments, after being defeated by Nadal in the quarter-finals at the end of last month, which paved the way for Medvedev's return to the top spot.

However, Medvedev, who suffered a surprising defeat on Sunday against unseeded Dutch player Tim van Rijthoven in the final of the Surhees-Bosch tournament, will not be able to compete at Wimbledon, the third Grand Slam event, due to a ban on Russian and Belarusian players from participating because of the military operations in Ukraine. Nevertheless, both the ATP and WTA will suspend the distribution of ranking points at Wimbledon in response to the organizers' unwelcome decision.

Here are the top ten player rankings:

1. Daniil Medvedev (Russia) - 7950 points

2. Alexander Zverev (Germany) - 7075 points

3. Novak Djokovic (Serbia) - 6770 points

4. Rafael Nadal (Spain) - 6525 points

5. Casper Ruud (Norway) - 5050 points

6. Stefanos Tsitsipas (Greece) - 4945 points

7. Carlos Alcaraz (Spain) - 4893 points

8. Andrey Rublev (Russia) - 4125 points

9. Felix Auger-Aliassime (Canada) - 3895 points

10. Matteo Berrettini (Italy) - 3570 points.
