With the start of some European leagues such as the German Bundesliga, the English Premier League, and La Liga, several stars have returned to proving their quality with their numbers and statistics. In this context, Polish forward Robert Lewandowski of Bayern Munich and Egyptian winger Mohamed Salah of Liverpool became the players who scored at least one goal during the opening matches of their local leagues for more than consecutive seasons.
Lewandowski was first, netting the equalizer for his team in the 42nd minute of the match against Borussia Mönchengladbach, thereby scoring in the opening matches of the last 7 seasons in the Bundesliga, a record in the league. He found the net against Hamburg in the first round of the 2015-2016 season, Werder Bremen in the 2016-2017 season, Bayer Leverkusen in the 2017-2018 season, Hoffenheim in the 2018-2019 season, Hertha Berlin in the 2019-2020 season, and Schalke last season (2020-2021) before scoring against Mönchengladbach this season (2021-2022).
On the other hand, it was Mohamed Salah's turn the next day, Saturday, as he scored against Norwich City in the 74th minute, securing a 3-0 victory for Liverpool. Salah scored this goal after providing two assists, one to Diogo Jota and the other to Roberto Firmino. Thus, Salah, nicknamed the Egyptian King, became the first player in Premier League history to score in the opening match for five consecutive seasons. His victims in the opening rounds have been: Watford (2017-2018), West Ham United (2018-2019), Norwich City (2019-2020), Leeds United (2020-2021), and Norwich again this season (2021-2022).
Both players barely played 90 minutes in the opening matches and broke a record, hoping to lead their teams to local and European glory by the end of the season.
