How He Defrauded His Victims

The General Directorate of Internal Security Forces - Public Relations Branch issued the following statement: As a result of an investigation conducted by the Cybercrime and Intellectual Property Department in the Judicial Police Unit regarding a complaint filed by a citizen against an unidentified individual for the crime of stealing her personal account on the "Facebook" application and impersonating her to communicate with her relatives to obtain prepaid cellular recharge cards in a fraudulent manner.

As a result of investigations, inquiries, and follow-ups, the office's personnel identified and arrested the suspect, M. B. (born in 1998, Palestinian). During the investigation, he confessed to stealing hundreds of accounts on the mentioned application—including the complainant's account—using the same method by stealing the victim's account and impersonating her. He then proceeded to communicate with her relatives through her Messenger application or via WhatsApp using the number: 958546-78 to fraudulently obtain recharge cards. He also admitted that he managed to target victims who did not have "Two-Factor Authentication" enabled on their accounts.

Thus, the General Directorate of Internal Security Forces requests citizens who have been defrauded via the number: 958546-78 to contact the mentioned office at the number: 293293-01 for legal actions based on the relevant judicial authority. Additionally, users should enable the "Two-Factor Authentication" feature and select a password that the application requests periodically to confirm the user's identity, ensuring not to forget it and not to share it with anyone.
