Last night, Liverpool fans attacked the FIFA for not including their star player and top scorer of the English Premier League, Mohamed Salah, in the ideal lineup for the 2021 best team. The unusual aspect of this year's "The Best" award is that Mohamed Salah's name was absent, despite him finishing third as the best player in the world, even while four forwards were chosen. The same goes for the outstanding goalkeeper Edouard Mendy, who was awarded the title of best goalkeeper in the world but was not included in the ideal lineup.
Salah finished third in the Best Player award after Polish player Robert Lewandowski and Argentine Lionel Messi. This is the second time Salah has achieved this position, having also finished third in 2018. The Liverpool Echo, a newspaper close to the English club, reported that Liverpool fans criticized FIFA on social media for ignoring Salah in the ideal lineup for 2021, even though he was competing for the same "The Best" award.
One fan was quoted as saying, "We should all laugh at the absence of Mohamed Salah in the 2021 ideal lineup," while another added, "Four forwards were selected (Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo, Lewandowski, and Erling Haaland), but Salah was not among them; how is that possible?"
The ideal lineup for 2021 included Italian Gianluigi Donnarumma in goal; defenders Austrian David Alaba, Portuguese Ruben Dias, and Italian Leonardo Bonucci; midfielders Italian Jorginho, French N'Golo Kanté, and Belgian Kevin De Bruyne; and forwards Portuguese Cristiano Ronaldo, Norwegian Erling Haaland, Polish Robert Lewandowski, and Argentine Lionel Messi.
